Join Gruntwork in fighting COVID-19 by getting a reusable face mask, while supporting charity.

At Gruntwork, we’ve seen firsthand the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in communities around the globe, so we wanted to do a little something to help.

We’ve created a limited edition, reusable face mask and launched it in the Gruntwork Store! Wearing a mask is one of the simplest and most effective ways you can keep yourself and those around you safe. Each mask is $10, with $4 being used to cover the cost of the mask and the remaining $6 going to Crisis Aid International’s COVID-19 Relief Fund, so this mask is also an easy way to help keep everyone around the world safe.

As the mask says, not all heroes wear capes—some wear masks. So be a hero and get yourself a mask now!

Why Face Masks?

There’s ample evidence that masks are a simple and effective way to protect yourself and others:

  1. In countries with universal mask-wearing, per-capita coronavirus mortality increased by just 5.4% each week compared with 48% each week in remaining countries (reference).
  2. In one study, data collected from mask mandates around the US suggests that as many as 230,000–450,000 COVID-19 cases were averted thanks to these mandates.
  3. Fluid dynamics simulations in a study show that the use of masks reduced the radius of the droplet cloud and spread of virus particles during respiratory events such as coughing and sneezing.

Check out this thread for a lot more studies and research on masks.

What Else We’re Doing at Gruntwork

We’ve been lucky as a company to be in an industry that hasn’t been overly negatively effected by COVID. In fact, our company mission is making software 10x easier to build, and with everyone stuck at home, online all day, software is more important than ever.

We’re also lucky that we’ve been distributed since day one. But like everyone else, our team has been affected too. Kids are at home; trips canceled; friends and family sick; inability to see those we love.

To deal with this difficult period, we’ve called out to all Gruntwork employees that we understand no one is quite at 100%, so expectations are lower; we’ve allowed employees to use work tools for home use (e.g., Zoom); and we’ve doubled the personal budget to account for increases in expenses such as childcare. The personal budget is a budget each Gruntwork employee can use to reimburse items from the following categories: workspace (e.g., a co-working space), health (e.g., gym, yoga), learning (e.g., books, courses), and time (e.g., babysitter.). The last item has been especially important during COVID-19.

Be a hero

Let’s fight COVID-19 together. Go get yourself a mask, let us know what else we can do, and stay safe!
